What does 'momme weight' actually mean?
Let us explain...
You have probably come across the expression 'momme weight' as you navigate your way around a mulberry silk purchase.
What does 'momme weight' actually mean?
We are here to explain... in simple terms, momme weight (often abbreviated to mm) describes the weight of 100 yards of silk, 45 inches wide, in pounds. A fabric listed with a momme weight of 8mm means that 100 yards of the fabric weighs 8 pounds. Higher quality silk (like ours) tends to be 14,15 or 16mm or higher. The best quality silk bedding is 19mm, or the technical explanation - 19 pounds in weight per 100 yards.
Our customers can be rest assured that any piece purchased from The Ethical Silk Company is made from excellent quality mulberry silk and designed for longevity.
