The art of block printing and weaving
Steeped in tradition and made for modern wear, our printed collections are made using the ancient artform of hand-block printing. This centuries-old technique is a heritage craft of India, passed down from generation to generation.
Using simple tools, time-honoured methods and years of experience, the designs are traced onto teak wood blocks and craved by hand, they're then dipped in dye and the pattern is stamped by hand onto the mulberry silk one section at a time. Slight variations of colours and patterns are characteristic of block printing, deomstrating the turly hand-made nature and unique beauty of the process, making each piece one-of-a-kind.
Our artisan weavers are based in South India and use non-AZO dyes (known to contain harmful and toxic chemical compounds) that are low-imnpact on the enviroment. All water used during production is treated and recycled with a water filtration system that removes the dye residue, meaning the wash water is reused for fabric washing. This is combined with a rain water catchment system at our block printing unit in North India to reduce water use.
